Breitling Jet Team
Country | France |
Base | Dijon |
Aircraft | 7 x L-39C Albatros |
Formed in 2003, the Breitling Jet Team was the first and largest professional civilian jet team in the world. Team leader Jacques Bothelin is the only true civilian pilot; the others have all flown in the military, including some who were pilots with the Patrouille de France. Previous to the Breitling Jet Team, Bothelin had conceived and lead other aerobatic teams, including the Khalifa Jet Team, the predecessor of the current team, which flew four L-39s.
The Breitling Jet Team have performed at airshows across Europe, including the Sanicole International Airshow, Festa al Cel and AIR '14 Payerne. In 2011, they performed a simultanious display with the Breitling Wingwalkers at the 40th Royal International Air Tattoo. Having flown at the Al Ain Aerobatics Show 2006 in the UAE, their first major intercontinental tour was in 2012-3, performing at airshows across Asia including Airshow China 2012. The tour was cut short due to the US sequestration cuts, which lead to many planned events in Japan and South Korea being cancelled. More recently, they embarked on an American tour in 2015-16. Both years the team undertook a full airshow season performing at major events across Canada and the USA such as the Miramar Airshow, Canadian International Airshow, Reno Air Races and the Sun 'n Fun Fly-in.
